Blog 8 - My experience studying english

Time flies. This is the last blog of the semester and I’m going to talk about the experience of learning English at university. In my case, when I entered to my first semester in 2017 I did the English test and I got to English IV… BUT I didn’t take the subject until my eighth semester because of my schedule and the workload that I already told you about. So my experience studying English here it has only been on-line. I enjoyed the classes because I got the chance to practice my pronunciation and casual conversations that requires some sort of mental fluency. Plus, in the first classes I felt very shy to the idea of speaking english like “in public”, but along the semester I become more and more comfortable. About the blogs, I think they are a really really good idea given the circumstances of the pandemic and online classes. Writing blogs are useful for practice our writing skills and it’s helpful to get to know other classmates, their careers, personal interest, and many things th...

Changes to my Study programme

Imagen
Hi everyone, today I’ll post my reflections on the programme of my career, Sound Engineering. My career is defined by this university as mixture between science, arts and technology. Because of that we have a curriculum that includes music studies, music production techniques, mathematics, physics, acoustics, electronics, coding, etc. It is very nice to have the chance to learn about those different topics, nevertheless, it implies a very heavy workload that even makes many students to drop the career. Just in this semester I have to course 9 (!!!) subjects, and I am up to date with the curriculum. It’s just that the career is designed in a way that you get an insane workload. The semester that I had the smallest number of subjects they were 7. So… that is one thing that I would definitely change about my career, and it is not that hard. Depending on what subjects you choose on the fourth and fifth year of the career, you can have a specialization: Signals, or sound productio...

Postgraduate studies

Imagen
Hi everyone :p,  in this exact moment I’m finishing all the subjects of this semester and I’m a little stressed out because of that… so if you ask me today about post-graduate studies I’m going to cry, or laugh, or maybe both. Anyway, if you ask me the same question when the semester is over then it’ll be a different story. I’m studying sound engineering right now and there are many different topics that you could choose to keep studying. In my case I prefer the artistic side of the career more than the numbers and the physics. When it comes to choose a topic I can think of two of them. On one side I like a lot the world of the Sound Design and the Sonic Arts... which is an area that’s related to sound synthesis,   sound production for movies, for video games, theatre, multimedia interactions, sound installations and of course interdisciplinary works with other people. On the other hand I like a lot electronic instruments and electronic music… this year I designed and built ...

My favourite movie

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I’m going to tell you my thoughts about cinema. First, I have to tell you that I don’t watch too many movies because I find it difficult to spend 2 hours focused on the same thing. I can get easily distracted while watching films and normally I don’t finish them. The only way that I can watch a full movie is going to the cinema or being with another person. Nevertheless, I have watched some films throughout my life that I really enjoyed… my favorite genres are horror and science-fiction, so the movies that I like the most are between those. I like zombies, aliens, ghosts, robots and that kind of stuff. Some time ago I found on internet a list of the best horror movies of all time, and I picked up Rosemary’s Baby. The film’s plot is about a young marriage that’s recently moved to an old apartment in New York. The apartment has an obscure past because of the people that lived there before… The couple meets their neighbors who are an old marriage that acts very s...

Post 2 - The best concert I've had

Imagen
When someone ask me about the best concert of my life I immediately think about The Strokes on Lollapalooza. It was on April 2, 2017, in Parque O’higgins . The strokes is a rock band from New York, formed in 1998. They became very popular with their debut album Is this it , released in 2001. Since then, they’ve been very influential in many rock bands of the 2000’s and 2010’s. In Lollapalooza there are several stages so the artists can play simultaneously, and you have to choose where to go. I remember that the day of the concert my friends and I arrived very early to the stage where The Strokes was going to play. They were the last ones to perform so we saw a few bands that played at the same stage before. We were very focused on get the closest to the stage as possible. When The Strokes started their show we were really close to the stage, the problem was that people was so excited about the band that we lost each other in the crowd. Nevertheless, the show was great and I’m...

A country i would like to visit

Imagen
Hello everyone, The country I would like to visit is Perú, but… why? For the last 3 years I have become very interested in nature, especially on plants. I am still impressed about how different they are depending on their environment… because of that I started to look up for places near from Chile where I could find beautiful natural landscapes… I found out that Peru has large areas of rainforest that belongs to the Amazonia, where you can find many kinds of strange animals and plants that doesn’t exist in Chile. Besides that, there’s a music genre that I like called “chicha” which mix cumbia, rock and traditional aesthetics from the jungle. There are many bands of “chicha” based on Perú that I’d love to see playing… However, I think that just visit the Peruvian rainforest is ok for me, I like to live in the city and can’t imagine myself living there for much time… thanks for reading me, goodbye everyone J
